This is my first web cam and I like it. It was easy to set up and I am told that the picture quality is good by those receiving the image. The tracking could be better but then again I don't find much need to use it. It sits on my flat screen monitor and the lab top monitor with no problem. I was looking for the best webcam out there for around $50 and found this one for just over 60. Cnet strongly recommended it. I've bought four so far for myself and my family (I'm due to go to Iraq soon) and it's been great. The high quality microphone is what really surprised me, which is good because videoconferencing and online phone capabilities through Yahoo are what I've ended up using the camera most for. The camera auto-focuses and is rated at 2MP and works great. Unless the $60 price tag is just too much for you, I can't see any reason not to highly recommend this webcam. Did I mention the innovative and perfectly designed stand/bracket that lets you put it on almost any surface or monitor/laptop at just the right angle? It's great.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 This instant

If you are an owner of a Macintosh computer you'll be pleased to know this webcam is a winner and all I had to do was plug it in to a USB port and it worked right out of the box with Yahoo Instant Messenger and AIM. When I chat with someone who has AIM I use the Mac's instant messenging program iChat.

You can not install the Windows software that comes with it, of course, but I didn't care about the bells and whistles. The video image was the best I've used. I am running OS 10.4.11 as I write this.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 Review

I bought this to upgrade from another Logitech cam I bought 2-3 years ago. This new cam is absolutely identical to the old one. I can find no improvements whatsoever. The resolution is no better 640x480, forget what the adverts say, the rest is software enhanced. The picture quality is exactly the same as the old cam which is poor. I can't understand the webcam market. This is supposedly a cutting edge webcam but it takes horrible pictures compared to even the cheapest digital camera. Webcams are still treated as a gimmicky toy for kids with laptops and IM to play with. Very disappointing, save your money. Somewhere there has to be a good webcam I can buy.....Been trying to find one for years, no luck. My crappy old $99 digital camera takes far superior pictures than anyone I have tried or seen. Keep looking. Update--I got it to work at 800x600 but the picture quality and auto-focus are still total unbelievable garbage.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

Kind of dissapointed after all the hype at respectable review sites. Prefer my Logitech 5000 in the end.

Color/Brightness EXCELLENT. The performance of this camera in low-light (a.k.a typical household light, day or night) is amazing -and I mean amazing, considering the many digital video cameras and cameras I own.

The Wide Angle is HORRIBLE. Well, if you want to get 5 people into the shot, it's cool. (and they will need to come within 4 feet of the camera to fill the frame! all five!) But for showing just you, just your face and shoulders, this wide angle means you only have two choices: either show tiny head/tiny shoulders and your lap and half your living room (this is at normal distance from your monitor), or show a face distorting, nose-enlarging fish-eye look. (at 6 inches from the camera -what it takes for your head to fill the frame) I like the angle of the Logitech 5000 much more.

(Yes, I know there is a zoom function. It is a digital zoom, and blurs the pic.)

One more gripe: no way to hard-set the output resolution. (1600x1200 or 640x480 or 320x240) Basically, I have no idea which resolution it is sending to the IM / Video apps, and am wondering if it's sending 1600x1200 (native resolution) and slowing the video down... :-(Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Cheapest Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

I bought this webcam for my 80 something year-old grandparents so we could use video chat software online when I'm not at home. They love it! It was pretty easy to install and we had no problems setting up Skype to use the webcam. The mic quality is great and the picture is excellent quality, as well. Automatic light adjustments on the webcam make it easy for the viewer to see without having to worry about variable lighting conditions. Some stability issues on their flat panel monitor, but as long as you don't touch the camera too much, it's pretty secure. We won't be using any of the silly visual effects that are included in the software, but even the basic functions are simple to use. Great buy!Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Discount Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

After paying attention to the warnings of the otehr reviewers about NOT plugging the camera in prior to running the install CD, I have to say that my experience was very fast and painless.
The QuickCam is my first web cam, which I purchased for my wife and I to use in overseas communication with friends in the U.K., real-time, and to have for the fun of simply having one if we wanted to use it for something else. Apparently, it will take nearly DVD-quality video direct from the QuickCam, but we've not expiremented with this as of yet. Same thing with still photos.
The video sent across using just the basic webcam function is top-notch however, with lighting and color corrections right in the camera before it gets sent to your recipients. The camera angle is wider-angle than some cams I've seen used by friends and people on the net, and generally speaking, I haven't a single complaint against the thing.
Well, one thing only, which is sort of trivial. I don't have the web cam mounted on top of my monitor, but beside it, and the base is not exactly super-steady. It'll fall over easily if it gets bumped. Since that's the worst of my problems, I think it's a great purchase.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 Right now

This is the first web cam that I have found worth buying. After reading numerous bad reviews about the 9000pro software, but seeing video made with them, I decided to try one. Following instructions for installation was easy. Excellent video and audio right away. None of the problems reported in other reviews. This computer uses windows xp media center 2005. Not being the type to leave well enough alone, I decided to check for updates. The installation program did not find any updates during initial installation, but I knew there was one. After downloading the latest update, the computer could not find the camera or microphone. I had to manually make the system settings. I found no difference in the video or audio with the update. I then removed the complete installation and did a fresh install using the provided disc, without an update. I now have Amazing video, even in low light. Audio is better than most microphones I have used. I bought two more 9000pro's for my daughters. Both have different versions of xp operating systems. I gave them instructions not to update if they had no problems. Both work as well as mine. Both have received complements on the beautiful video and that it is much better than video sent by other people. We use eyeball chat, works great.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

The webcam works well enough, it does what it's supposed to do, and that is video chat, and it does that very well.

However, most of the extra features regularly break and force me to reinstall the software if I want to use the avatars and amusing graphics. I've yet to figure out how to fix these problems without having to pop in the install disc again.

Pros

Pro 9000 has Carl Zeiss lens. The image quality, if adjusted, is very nice even in poorly-lit room. This is obviously the most important for webcam.

It does everything automatically, but I stop autofocus and adjust the image manually in order to avoid frequent image disturbances by auto-adjustment. I usually adjust only exposure and gain.

It captures technically up to 1600x1200 pixel movie, but actually it depends on your PC's spec. My PC (XP, Pentium-M 1.4GHz, 1G RAM) can capture without any trouble up to 640x480.

Cons

You should be cautious when you Skype using this camera. If both your PC and your chat-partner's PC are powerful enough (at least above my PC's spec), there will be no problem. Otherwise, your Skype and your OS itself may become unstable and unfunctional in a few minutes. In other words, Pro 9000 is NOT perfectlly compatible with Skype and may cause annoying trouble. (I also tried Yahoo Messenger and this camera didn't work well on it.)

It is my understanding that this defect at least partially stems from Logitech's poor driver or software. Plus, there is no shortcut-key in its software, which may disappoint those manually adjust the image. I believe many users are waiting for Logitech's upgrade of the driver and software immediately.

Built-in mic is I think a junk. If you speak near the mic or speak just a little bit loudly, the sound easily cracks. My old cheap mic doesn't have such a problem. So, you need to use your mic or headset separately.

The stand soundly rests on display but not so on table.

Anything else

Video effects are fun just once and you'll never use them again. You need to get rid of the webcam software from startup by yourself. Don't expect "High Definition" video chatting unless you and all your chatting-partners have powerful Core2Duo PC.

The optic itself is great. I recommend the webcam if Logitech would listen to users' voice and improve the driver and software. Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 Best Quality

Update - This item is the BEST product I purchased in 2007! The images seen half way around the world are just astonishing (I posted one such image).. People can read the time on the clock at the opposite end of the wall - such clarity!
==============================
I used to not care much about Logitech - since I'd associated them with the cheaper type of keyboards and a 3 button clumsy mouse that I could not care for. I guess the company has really turned around and is bringing into the market great products at reasonable prices. Now when I see "Logitech" - I'm reasonably confident that I'll find something I like.

I have a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse (works flawlessly) and a speaker/subwoofer set - that also work rather well.

This webcam though has exceeded expectations when used with Skype and a high power computer. Skype automatically detected that I have a "high quality webcam" and set me up for "high resolution" video.

Costs less than what my CS330 Intel webcam did (and which I used all these years - since no other webcam quite gave me the same level of performance - a creative VGA webcam I tried gave me skin color that was dyed pink - awful).

Until now that is -

Whats to like -
1) Great image quality (good color, contrast, brightness). Its basically like a decent quality 2 MP camera. The color is a bit washed out at the default setting, but the saturation levels can easily be adjusted.
2) Has a mic that is extremely high quality and very sensitive. If a sound can be heared at its microphone - it will be transmitted to Skype with full fidelity. We are always being surprised by what the other parties are able to hear - like a baby sucking on the bottle - even though the baby is many feet away.
3) I don't know about "RightLight" but I do have to do manual adjustments to brightness/contrast..
4) Captures video directly into WMV - if you need to. Video quality is quite good actually. Probably better than an SD camcorder.
5) Autofocus seems to work well.
6) I loaded the latest software/driver from Logitech site - clear instructions and everything worked first time around - no issues at all. You do need the software+drivers to make full use of the product.
7) Lens is much wider angle than my earlier webcam. Make a big difference.
8) Echo cancellation is perfect (Apparently Logitech software also has some kind of Echo Cancellation built in).
9) Used with Skype - we've had no problems with high resolution video half way around the world and we don't even notice a lag.

Flaws and negatives -

1)The stand is flimsy. Unit topples over easily if kept on a table. I'll be modding the stand a little bit with a "heavy" weight.

2) If you place the camera alone on the table, the perspective is tilted because the mic end is lower than the camera end. Camera cannot rest horizontally. I'll be sticking some foam to the Mic end of the camera to make it rest horizontally instead of giving grandparents a tilted view of our home. I need to make the camera rest on a table sometimes - because of the stand issue (point 1 above).

3) Loading just the driver (sans software) - there weren't any options for camera adjustments.

4) Logitech webcam software installs itself as a startup. This is un-necessary and I'll now have to "disable" this rotten feature by wading through the registry. Why does software not give me the option of whether it should run anytime the computer is started? One star taken away for this issue!

Inspite of the minor flaws - product exceeded expectations. I'd have bought this earlier if I'd known about it!!

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 Immediately

Webcams are for two purposes... a visual and audible way to connect with others. For the most part, the audio part is pretty simple because sound does not need much bandwidth to transmit. The part that mot webcams struggle with is the visual aspect. And by far, this is the webcam with the highest video quality I have seen.

It isn't so much the resolution of the camera, which this has down pact with its ability to get up to a high definition quality of video, but the ability to show color well in poor lighting conditions (which is often in an office environment) and focus on its target. It is all three of these abilities that the camera does well and which puts it in a class above everything else.

It isn't just for video conferencing or instant messaging, either. I have it set to record motion so I can see who has visited me while I'm away and it does this job wonderfully! I can also use it to record short little video emails to send to friends and family to add a personal touch when communicating over the Internet. And I'm sure I am barely scratching the surface on what this guy can do.

If you are looking for a webcam, I'd highly suggest this one. Not only does it do everything you need to do but at much lower than a hundred bucks, the price is fantastic to boot.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 This instant

This review is for the benefit of Mac users, not Windows. I bought the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision to choose a web camera for an iMac G5 2.0GHz, the generation immediately before the G5 iMac with the built-in iSight camera. And I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.1, the most updated (to date) Leopard. There is currently a camera for sale at Apple retail stores that is labeled the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision MP, for Macs. It is the same hardware as the Ultra Vision and Ultra Vision SE for Windows; all the Ultra Vision cameras differ only in cosmetics, color--they're all the same hardware.

On a Mac, the cameras both run on the built-in Apple drivers. There are no Logitech drivers, no Logitech software. Therefore none of the Logitech special effects or light and sound management that the box lists work for Mac users. No autofocus, no RightLight2, no RightSound. Kind of a drag. In addition, there is no ability to manage color, light balance, etc., from any operating system software on the Mac or from Logitech. This is pure plug-and-play, and you get only the most basic functionality: The camera and microphone work (not sure about quality of sound on receiving end) to deliver picture and sound, neither tunable with what is in the box.

What the two cameras have in common is that they work for Mac users. According to what I've read, any camera that is labeled as Microsoft Windows Vista-compatible or UVC (USB Video Class) will work just as these do in Mac OS X, with this prereq: You have to have OS X 10.4.9 minimum. Tiger (OS X 10.4) is currently at 10.4.11; Leopard is at 10.5.1. Both will support video and sound on UVC cameras.

That said, the Pro 9000 and Ultra Vision differ in some significant ways. The focus on the Pro 9000 (P9K hereafter) is tighter than on the Ultra Vision (UV hereafter). The focus on the UV is comparatively lower in resolution; you can see jaggies on straight lines on either camera, but they're pretty visible on the UV, and you have to look for them on the P9K. I would say the P9K is definitely superior, and neither is as good as the iSight cameras built into any of the current Mac lines (but then, if you had a Mac with iSight, you wouldn't be reading this). The P9K's resolution is finer than the UV.

As to color I would say that if I could have a compromise between the two cameras, the UV and the Pro 9000, it would be better than either. The Pro 9000 color/exposure is a bit washed out; the UV is a bit dim. E.g., a blue pinpoint oxford shirt looks barely blue on the Pro 9000, and much more saturated on the UV. The entirety of the UV's color tilts heavily toward blue, while the Pro 9000 goes more toward yellow. (I would be curious to know if the color balance varies by model or by individual camera. I'd also love to see if other brands, say, Creative Labs, differ too.) Both cameras adjust to changing light, but in low light the Pro 9000 is not just a little but significantly better; in very low light, the UV nearly blacks out, while screen light is enough for the PK9 to deliver a passable image, albeit with low frame rate and lots and lots of motion blur.

Note that on a G5 or earlier (any non-Intel Mac), the support for iChat and PhotoBooth's effects is limited--specifically, they'll do the first two panels (color effects, including charcoal, Andy Warhol-ish, X-ray, B/W, sepia, and the pinch, swirl, and similar effects), but none of the backdrop effects, either still or moving.

I found both to work with iChat, PhotoBooth, Skype, and several of the shareware camera apps available. So I would say they work, period.

While neither Apple nor Logitech provides much more support for cameras, eCamm.com has a bevy of camera titles that provide extra power for web cameras on non-Intel Mac hardware. iGlasses, PowerBoost, and a couple other titles provide color tuning, restore some of the effects capabilities that PPC Macs don't get in iChat and PhotoBooth, and provide recordability with QuickTime output. They do good work. iGlasses provides some control over brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, gamma, sharpness, gain, white balance. I didn't find these to really improve the images on the P9K, but they did help the UV. Once you get a camera, you may want to get some of eCamm's software.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

I bought this camera because I thought I could really get some great quality video - even in High Definition. However, the quality is really bad. After upgrading to all the newest versions of both Logitech's software and Skype, the video quality is still bad when doing video conferencing. The video quality is awesome when I am recording my own videos on my own computer, but that's not why I bought this product. After hours of research and phone support, found out that both parties conferencing require to have computers with DUAL processors and high speed Internet to have High Definition video - quite a limitation!Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Overall pleased with the webcam. Picture quality, mic quality and the logitect tools are all good. Price is reasonable.

Main complaint:
I would think many of us bought this to have video call with family / friends. Biggest problem is it doesn't work with skype.

I got it to work occassionally, but then it would just freeze the camera in the middle of the call for no reason. Then you have to reboot computer, unplug usb then reconnect it for windows to detect camera. Tried many times, same problem so I gave up trying to use with skype. Though when it does work, it's awesome.

Yahoo msg: the camera itself works great. But the mic doesn't. So you'll still be forced to wear a headset.

It's probably some issues with driver or software which could be fixed in the future. Despite the glitches, still find this camera to be very good. Haven't seen picture quality this clear yet.

If you are willing to do some work-arounds, this is a good pickup.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

I paid EXTRA to get this model for its fun video effects. But installation has been problematic. Windows Vista is constantly asking to install the drivers. Over and over. After rebooting and installing again, when I try to apply one of the fun video effects, I get an error stating "a software error has occurred". Logitec has a message board but it's a real MESS. If you run Vista, avoid this unless you ONLY want great images AND plan to ONLY take pictures using Logitec's built-in picture manager. If your application deems it necessary that it must work with other programs, don't count on it.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 is an expensive but excellent webcam. The quality of the picture is pretty good. The picture delivered is sharp and clear. Also, the webcam adjusts to lighting conditions automatically, even on OS X Leopard. The picture looks great in most lighting conditions, including low light.

One caveat though is that on the Mac, the frame rate is a bit low. This is in contrast with what is experienced on the PC running Windows. This is probably due to the lack of special drivers for the camera in Mac OS X.

The webcam was connected to a G4 PowerBook laptop and an Intel-based Mac mini, both running Mac OS X.

So far, the camera works with the following Mac applications: iChat, Skype, Yahoo! Messenger, and Photo Booth. It doesn't work with iMovie.

I also tried plugging the webcam into the Playstation 3. Amazingly, the webcam works on the PS3. Frame rate, however, is like that on the Mac.

Update: The frame rate of the camera on the Mac leaves a lot to be desired. This has to be worked out by either Apple or Logitech (or both).

Cheap Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

My company purchased several of these and we've started to deploy them. I was initially given the task of "testing" to see if this unit fulfilled our needs. Overall, the product works GREAT after the software is updated to the newest version. But, needing a software update is not enough for me to give this camera a low score. The video quality is EXCELLENT. I've created still and recorded 3-5 minute long videos. I've went through the features to try and find something wrong but have not found much to complain about. I've not tried this device with Skype, AIM or Yahoo. My company uses Microsoft Live Communications Server and this device ties in well with the LCS environment. The microphone initially gave us sound issues. But, after troubleshooting and the software update sound was better but still not to die for... No problems with initial install but, give yourself 10-20 minutes for install, then another 10-20 minutes to go to Logitech site, find the update and install that. Basically, it's like installing the software twice... Overall, I give this unit an A- and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality Webcam at an attractive price. Search for the best price online as I've seen it on another popular site for $59.99. Less than sixty dollars is a great price. 4 stars would have been 5 stars if the Audio were a tad bit better... 2 mic's on the next one Logitech!!!Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Save Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

Not really happy with this webcam as yet. Still trying to work out the bugs in the system. Can not get the sound to work properly but the tech guys believe its a software issue....SO who knows what will happen in the coming weeks (they may issue a critical update for this product). Overall, the picture is brillant but the sound is not up to the standards that one would expect from any type of Logitech product.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

This webcam doesn't work with Skype or at least I gave up after hours of trying. I've read through all the reviews on Amazon looking for tips and visited Skype's BBS and all the hot fixes from Skype and most recent versions of software from Logitech don't seem to help.

This camera has a great picture as long as you use the Logitech software that comes with it. But when connecting to the camera via Skype I get nothing when calling.

The only time I see a picture in Skype is when I use the Tools/Options menu to adjust the camera. It clearly works in the test window but I don't have anything during a real session.

I didn't contact Logitech support due to the headaches reported by others here when that's been done. Logitech refuses to support this hardware when used outside of their bundled software. I could care less if I can make my picture look like it was taken in the 1970s I want to call my sister in Boston.

Funtionality trumps gimmicks.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Low Price Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 is known as the latest version of the previous model known as the Fusion (which received positive ratings). With a lot of webcams available that offer night vision report, I actually scoured various review sites because I wanted a camera that would be beneficial for me to lifecast on justin.tv and ustream.tv. I needed a webcam that a) would be durable b) would be perfect for low light conditions c) to generate great quality. After using this webcam for narly a month now, I am very pleased. The quality is awesome. The Logitech software is very cool and you can download even more special effects online. I use my PC laptop but will need to test it on my Mac on OS 10.5 (Leopard) ala Maccam. Superwebcam works well. Will test it with Camtwist soon. But all in all, this is one of the best webcams to get for its price range. I know many of you will want to spend on the Fusion which came out years before and it's a great cam, but spend a little more for the QuickCam Pro 9000. You won't be disappointed.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.

Lowest Price Logitech Webcam Pro 9000

This is my first Web cam. I have a 2-year-old Dell Dimension 9100 running XP with 2 GB of RAM and 3-GHz processor. Not exactly a budget computer.
From a reputable company like Logitech, I expected installaton software that is professional. (It came with Quickcam v11.0) Instead, the installation CD froze repeatedly, generating message like "MSiExec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" Earth to Logitech: Professionals handle errors gracefully; don't drop your customer into quicksand! (I used to develop quality commercial software) I even got a BSOD (blue screen of death) when I *uninstalled* the camera driver. Uninstalled! That's outrageous! I never got the sucker to work and it's going back to CompUSA for a refund or exchange. What a piece of software junk! After wasting hours on this, now I'm thinking of trying a Microsoft cam, as I hope they'd handle Windows conflicts a bit more gracefully. Note: Since posting the above, I visited the user forums on Logitech's site, which are filled with users complaining about every conceivable kind of conflict and installation error. I used to see this kind of stuff in 1983. This is not what software should be like in 2007. Totally unacceptable.Get more detail about Logitech Webcam Pro 9000.
