The audio quality is, in my opinion, spectacular. On my middle of the road laptop, the audio was surprisingly full and rich, not at all the somewhat tinny sound associated with earlier Logitech and other webcams.

The camera mount is a no-brainer and requires no concious thought to set up.

The Logitech software is less buggy than in the past. It installed under Vista Ultimate with only one error: the special effects wouldn't load, which is no great shakes for me.

By the way, always make sure that you download the latest software from the Logitech website. Never use the CD provided. It is always behind.

The results this webcam delivers are so good that I suspect many people will no longer feel any hesitation in videoconferencing as a substitute for travel or face-to-face meetings. I'm no public speaker by any means, but I think it's worth watching so you can get the best out of your new or potentially new webcam.
If you didnt watch the video or want a summary of what I stated in the video, I'll restate the main points below:
1. Always install the appropriate drivers from their logitech site. Often, the drivers on the disc are outdated.
2. Open up the Logitech Quickcam Vision for Enterprises software either through Start>All Programs>Logitech or just click on the icon provided on the desktop if there is one.
3. Unclick both Rightlight Automatic Settings(the eye picture icon) and Automatic Settings for Gain and Exposure(the owl picture icon). You can all find this under the gears icon. You can then adjust the bars left to right (especially exposure and gain) accordingly.
4. Under the camera picture icon in the software, you can also adjust for manual/auto focus, brightness, contrast, color, and white balance.
Doing all of this will raise your picture frame rate and minimize any blurring from motion.
Don't ever worry how you'll mess the camera settings up. If you first don't succeed at what you want, you can always re-click auto settings and start all over. Personally, I find it kind of entertaining when I mess around with it!

Since my last webcam is nearly 5 years old, I hoped that upgrading would be a big change. It was definitely a huge change in picture and audio quality. Whether it is being used for recording video and audio to send to someone or capturing live video and audio for someone to see, this thing does it really well.

I currently use it with my laptop which has Microsoft Windows Vista Home premium on it. I've also used it with Skype on my desktop that is equipped with Ubuntu 8.04 and it worked on 8.10. On Ubuntu, Skype has issues with how it can display the video as well as the other persons, but the video does work. As a side note for potential Ubuntu users, when Skype is using the audio and video of the webcam, it disables the use of playing music from your hard drive but allows you access to music/video from the web, youtube, last.fm, etc.

My Dell laptop has a built-in web cam, but the resolution is only 640 X 480, which is fairly standard. It's a bit blurry and the color is off. It fine for basic communication, but I wanted something better. A friend has a `Logitech Quick cam Communicate STX' and I was surprised at how clear and non-blurry it was. I like Logitech, but wanted something a little sleeker that would just fit on my screen. The Pro 9000 is the answer and its easily rests on top of your screen or on its own stand.

Instead of the typical 640 X 480, the High Definition Video resolution is 1600 X 1200 (pixels) which is very good quality and much clearer. That's 30 frames per second! Now when you move about quickly, there is some minor blur, but for just sitting and chatting, it's great. The settings are easy to work and you can adjust the color, hue, white balance, etc. to your liking or your room lighting (fluorescent lights mess with the colors). It even has a `focus' feature that will follow you as you move around. A red square in the settings focuses on your head and if you move your head down to your keyboard or from side to side, it actually follows you. There is also a cool zoom feature that will zoom in and out on your face automatically. The auto-focus is very clear and the lense is made from an established company called Carl Zeiss - I guess they've been making lenses, telescopes, etc. for decades.

For still shots, the camera takes photos as high as 8.0 megapixels (like my camera). There are also a lot of extras that I don't use, like the avatars (shark, stick figure, etc.) that calibrate to your face. You can actually become a shark and it moves with your real movements. I think kids would like this. There are also filters to personalize your camera for viewing or for prints.

The best part is that it's easy to set up and use. Remember though, that the quality of the video transmission is only as good as the lesser of the two viewers. If you're talking to someone on a lower end laptop, the transmission quality is less. However, two of the same web cams will give you both the same quality. The extras are okay for kids, but it's the quality of the video that I was after. Plus the price is good.

"UPDATE"...Perhaps this review and the current update will help others, however, the original review was yesterday and now this update continues with my progress overnight...I did get the camera up and running and would change the rating to a 4 out of 5 stars but I cannot change the stars via this edit...I ended up going to the "Logitech" site and dowloading the current drivers. I only loaded the drivers and did not use the disk that came with the camera. With just the drivers loaded I went directly to "Skype" and it works great. No glitches or problems in my first online event with this camera. I did change the mike default on "Skpye" to get the audio to acknowledge using the Logitech 9000's mike but beyond that, I had absolutely no problems...I still got the error "1719" but gave up fiddling with it anymore thinking that if it's working, why risk more grief just to get their software working...the driver download from the Logitech site did the trick! Quality of video and audio is excellent...My original review follows...OK, I just got the Quickcam Pro 9000 in this afternoon so perhaps a lame rating at this point is not fair, however, this is the first software I have attempted to load on my Windows Vista 64 Home Premium that simply would not even install. The error code "1719" problem appeared for the very first time so I must say that I am less than pleased that I cannot even get to square one without going into the registry and changing who knows what...I just feel that this darn thing should work without all the problems...sorry, call it skill level, a slow operator or whatever, however, the bottom line is, when I install a new program, I just am not interested in rebuilding the wheel to get the darn thing to work. Yes, I have gone into several forums and read about the same problem but the fixes are all over the board...I did expect some software related problems when I got this HP computer with Vista Home Premium / 64 bit, however, this is actually the first time I have had this issue and I have installed several programs with absolutely no problems. I would welcome any comments but I really hesitate to get into the registry to get my computer to sync with this program when others are working perfectly. That's under Linux (Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex), mind you -- apparently the uvcvideo driver it requires was part of the standard install as this is my first ever webcam. Now getting the HD resolutions and frame rates is more of an exercise (google for CaptureWidth/CaptureHeight and uvcdynctrl). I am currently seeing 960x720 with very decent optical quality and backlight processing but the frame rates are somewhat lagging. This may well be an issue with Skype itself or with the driver though. Overall the hardware shines but it would be nice to have a graphical utility for quick control tweaks. This little guy is physically built sturdy. What I mean by that is, it has heft to it. It is not flimsy. It sits on top of my Dell Flat Panel monitor just fine.

I know some are worried about motion being blurry, and it can be, I'll be honest. But so can any video in the right lighting. It is only a 2 megapixel camera, lighting is a must. The Right Light thing works, but the frame rate slows when it is in use, making motion more blurry. Just turn on another light--in front of you, and I think you'll be fine.

Others have had trouble getting it to work with Skype. I am using this camera on a Vista machine and at first Skype just displayed a screen that was blue, NOT the Blue Screen of Death, but no image, nonetheless. You need to go in to the settings tab in Skype and choose Default Video Device, and it should pick it up--do not choose the name of the camera, it doesn't work that way some how.

Overall, I'm pleased. Try to find the right price though, I paid $74 here on Amazon in Nov. '08 and got free super saver shipping. It arrived in about two business days, not counting Veteran's Day.
