This is a great webcam. I withheld 1 star for the following reasons. First, the webcam came with Logitech's Quickcam software ver 11.7. After a week the microphone stopped working. A call to Logitech discovered that version 11.5 was the right version for Vista and this camera. But the camera still didn't work properly. Logitech readily replaced the webcam with a new one in 3 days, which by the way came with ver 11.5 this time. So far the new one works fine.

The clarity is great, the "Right-Light" software doesn't handle overhead lighting well but the camera is sensitive enough that you can turn the "Right-Light" off. The sound quality is very good. It filters out background noise well and produces clear tones. Not coarse like other cameras. I love the special effects. The unit sits on the top rim of my monitor and adjusts easily. Face tracking sometimes zooms in and out when you are not moving. Still photos are as good as any hand-held 6 megapixel camera. This is Logitech's best optics in a webcam for under $100. It works well with AIM and SKYPE, quickly recognizing the application in use. I would have liked a cable that was a little longer (8 ft instead of 6 ft). I purchased this webcam based on the great reviews. At first, I was disappointed and considered returning it because the frame rate was so slow. I am running a Pentium 4. 2.8Ghz. with 512MB RAM, so I was surprised at the slow frame rate I was getting when capturing video, and I tried all 3 video quality settings (E-mail, VGA, and HD modes) offered in the Quickcam settings.

Come to find out, the issue went away when I disabled the RightLight feature. This feature allows lighting compensation in a dimly lit room. This would be useful if it did not slow down the frame rate so much, so I disabled this feature, and the webcam works perfectly now. I just make sure I have enough lighting in the room.

With Right Light enabled - audio was not matching with the video, and any movements were blurred, even slight movements of your hands would be blurry. The capture rate was extremely slow.

With Right Light disabled - video and audio sync, no blurriness, the webcam works great!

I have not tried it through any video-conferencing or IM programs (Yahoo, Skype or other).

I would recommend this webcam, but if the room in which it is used is dimly lit, then add more lighting. Otherwise, the frame speed is greatly reduced, affecting overall image quality.

Though its still pictures are great, on my MacBook Pro (and on many other Macs according to Logitech's support forums) THIS CAMERA'S VIDEO CAPTURE RATE IS ABYSMAL, around 5 frames per second. Logitech does NOT support this camera for OS X.

The only webcam Logitech supports for OS X is the Logitech 960-000254 QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac, which looks very similar to this one but has functions like RightLight and autofocus built into hardware. Logitech says the Vision Pro on a Mac gets a frame rate of "up to 30fps" with supported apps, which include iChat, Skype, and QuickTime Pro. I will be getting one and will find out how true that is!
